M.V. Rajasekharan was a veteran Congress leader and was known for value-based politics. Son-in-law of former Karnataka Chief Minister S. Nijalingappa, he represented Kanakapura constituency in Lok Sabha.
Born on September 12, 1928, in Ramanagara district, Rajasekharan was an authority on rural economy and had set up an institute to make studies on rural development. During his long political career, he served Member of Parliament from both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. He was also a member of the legislative council of Karnataka. During the Manmohan Singh government, Rajasekharan served as the Union Minister of State for Planning.
Illness and Death
The veteran leader, who was ailing for sometime, passed away in a Bengaluru hospital on April 13. He was 91. The veteran leader was suffering from prolonged age-related ailments. His death was mourned by many. Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa also condoled the death of this noble soul.
"Dear Mr. MV Rajasekharan, former minister of the Center, passed away. The loss of a valued politician by the separation of the simple, rigid MVR. I pray that the Lord will give them peace of mind and give their family the power to endure this pain, " wrote the Chief Minister.
